  33.           ZD Net/World Wide Web Edition
  34.           ZDI's ZD Net/World Wide Web edition was launched in October of
  35.           1994, and is available to Web users for free through the
  36.           support of advertisers. Today the ZD Net Web site receives more
  37.           than 1.5 million page requests every week. In addition to
  38.           providing interactive versions of Ziff-Davis' leading computing
  39.           publications, the ZD Net Web site provides services and
  40.           capabilities that take advantage of the Internet's technology
  41.           platform.

  43.           Recently, ZDI launched ZD Net's ZD3D area, one of the first 3-D
  44.           virtual reality Web sites that provides access to other 3-D
  45.           destinations as well as articles and information, enabling
  46.           users to watch as the technology -- which is still in its
  47.           infancy -- matures and emerges onto the Internet. In addition,
  48.           the recently announced and already popular ZD Net Personal View
  49.           is the first available service providing Web users with a free,
  50.           personalized, up-to-the-minute newspaper. To receive Personal
  51.           View, users register and select the computing categories and
  52.           keywords of the news they are most interested in receiving. ZD
  53.           Net Personal View searches through both Ziff-Davis news and
  54.           leading news wire services, and presents only the stories each
  55.           user wants to read.

  57.           Other popular features of the ZD Net Web site include: the
  58.           newly-formatted Trailblazer, a guide that analyzes, rates and
  59.           provides links to other hot computer- related Web sites;
  60.           Progressive Networks, Inc.'s LIVE RealAudio capabilities; and
  61.           ZD Net Job Database, a free listing of more than 2,000
  62.           technology-related jobs.

  243.           The "Flat Screen Space Theatre" web site is a "tour de force"
  244.           of web sites ... at least for anyone with any interest at all
  245.           in astronomy and planetariums.
  246.           
  247.           It offers a "guided tour" (a/k/a planetarium), vignettes on
  248.           black holes, gas giants, starbirth (and death), and other
  249.           assorted tasty treats. It also provides hotlinks to a variety
  250.           of other sites relevant to astronomy and astronomers. The
  251.           author (Carolyn Collins Petersen) is an accomplished science
  252.           journalist, as well as part-time Hubble researcher; her
  253.           explanations are lucid and written for laypersons, while
  254.           maintaining technical integrity. Highly recommended!!!

  256.           NOTE: Loading the home page (and some of the subsequent pages)
  257.           involve a *lot* of bytes ... many large image files, so
  258.           patience is required (a lot of patience if using less than a
  259.           28800 modem), but (IMHO) it's worth the wait. :-)
