ZD Net
ZD Net/World Wide Web Edition
ZDI's ZD Net/World Wide Web edition was launched in October of
1994, and is available to Web users for free through the
support of advertisers. Today the ZD Net Web site receives more
than 1.5 million page requests every week. In addition to
providing interactive versions of Ziff-Davis' leading computing
publications, the ZD Net Web site provides services and
capabilities that take advantage of the Internet's technology
platform.
Recently, ZDI launched ZD Net's ZD3D area, one of the first 3-D
virtual reality Web sites that provides access to other 3-D
destinations as well as articles and information, enabling
users to watch as the technology -- which is still in its
infancy -- matures and emerges onto the Internet. In addition,
the recently announced and already popular ZD Net Personal View
is the first available service providing Web users with a free,
personalized, up-to-the-minute newspaper. To receive Personal
View, users register and select the computing categories and
keywords of the news they are most interested in receiving. ZD
Net Personal View searches through both Ziff-Davis news and
leading news wire services, and presents only the stories each
user wants to read.
Other popular features of the ZD Net Web site include: the
newly-formatted Trailblazer, a guide that analyzes, rates and
provides links to other hot computer- related Web sites;
Progressive Networks, Inc.'s LIVE RealAudio capabilities; and
ZD Net Job Database, a free listing of more than 2,000
technology-related jobs.

RockWeb Interactive
We have extensive multimedia home sites for bands, both signed
and unsigned, and interactive interviews with musicians and
reports from music festivals (the latest is an in-progress
report of CMJ Fest in NY, featuring an interview with Steel
Pole Bathtub.) Our popular music webchat, From the Hip is busy
most hours with people from all around the world.
We feature artwork from rock n' roll related artists and live
concert footage from various videographers. We are working in
conjunction with the Save the Earth Foundation as part of their
rock memorabilia auction to bring interviews with Santana and
Jeff Beck to the Web. These interviews, as well as other of our
featured content, make use of RealAudio technology.
Our Jerry Garcia Tribute site was NCSA's Pick of the Week, and
both it and RockWeb as a whole, received Point Communications
Top 5% of the Web Honors. The goal of our site as a whole is to
allow the best in people to come through the web to affect
people with their words, art and music. I think we have done
that and that people appreciate it; please come by and
experience it for yourself. We welcome your comments if you
visit.

Science
Flat Screen Space Theatre
The "Flat Screen Space Theatre" web site is a "tour de force"
of web sites ... at least for anyone with any interest at all
in astronomy and planetariums.
It offers a "guided tour" (a/k/a planetarium), vignettes on
black holes, gas giants, starbirth (and death), and other
assorted tasty treats. It also provides hotlinks to a variety
of other sites relevant to astronomy and astronomers. The
author (Carolyn Collins Petersen) is an accomplished science
journalist, as well as part-time Hubble researcher; her
explanations are lucid and written for laypersons, while
maintaining technical integrity. Highly recommended!!!
NOTE: Loading the home page (and some of the subsequent pages)
involve a *lot* of bytes ... many large image files, so
patience is required (a lot of patience if using less than a
28800 modem), but (IMHO) it's worth the wait. :-)
